American Idol is entering into its ninth season and musical judge chairs appears to be the gist of the competition, and not the actual talent of the contestants. Ellen Degeneres has been selected to join American Idol as the fourth judge on the panel, replacing Paula Abdul. It is the hope that Ellen will not only bring to the show humor, but honest votes for talent that sets themselves apart from others.
Ellen has repeatedly told her audiences on her talk show that she wants to be the voice of the people who watch American Idol, not an expert opinion. Paula was known to be a very sensitive judge who was always the one who found the best in the contestants even if they had very little. Ellen will begin her judge term in Hollywood following the audition rounds. The hope is that American Idol does not turn into a comedy hour instead of selecting true talent and assisting these young musical hopefuls with their professional music careers.
Simon Cowell's contract expires after this season and at this point it is only speculation about his intentions regarding his judging role on the show. Serious consideration has been given to Ryan Seacreast about the possibility of replacing Simon. The public enjoys the cocky attitude of Simon. His quick and very often rude, but honest comments regarding the contestants are what the public likes. American Idol is hoping that Ellen and Simon turn out to be good sparring partners in order to refresh the show.
