Speculation abounds surrounding the news that Simon Cowell is leaving the top-rated 'American Idol' show that he created. Paula Abdul left after the 2009 season and fans have concerns about who the judges of the Idol show will be after the 2010 season ends in May. As early as April, 2009, Simon Cowell stated to the New York Daily News that "he has too much on his plate." Cowell went on to say that most people do one show a year while he does three a year.
On January 11, 2010, Simon announced that he was leaving the popular 'American Idol' show and planning to launch the successful British show, 'The X Factor', in the U.S. in 2011. It is similar to 'American Idol' with a few differences: contestants of all ages are welcome and the judges are mentors as well as talent judges. It is thought that 'The X Factor' would air in late summer and fall months and 'American Idol' in the usual January to May time frame.

To accomplish all this, Simon does a huge amount of traveling, sometimes as many as four international flights a week during the summer months. At age 50, Cowell admits that his intense schedule gives him no time for a social life.
