Is There a Future for American Idol?

From the time Kelly Clarkson became the first winner, many of us have enjoyed the true talent that has been shown on "American Idol." Now, however, with Paula Abdul gone, and after this year, Simon Cowell leaving, is there any hope for "American Idol?"

Ever since 2002, we have enjoyed the good and bad singers, hoping our favorite wins. It was popular back then, until 2008, but now "American Idol" is losing viewers. In 2009, there were nearly four million fewer people watching the finale than the previous year, which was the lowest since 2004. Last year, they did try to change the format by adding Kara DioGuardi, but that just made the show run longer, which the public didn't like. Now, with Paula Abdul gone and Simon leaving this year, what's going to happen to the show that gave many great artists their beginning?

It's hard to say whether the fans will stay with both gone. Also, in 2010, both Randy Jackson's and Ryan Seacrest's contracts are up, but they're both being quiet about the future. Simon Cowell tells it like it is, and many agree with that sharp tongue of his. Now he wants to get ready for "The X Factor," coming in late 2011. In a poll taken in May of 2009, nearly half the ones asked said they wouldn't watch it without him. It's hard to say if that's the truth. The American public may like it better without Simon.
