"American Idol" is a Fox network program that has taken the country by storm every since it began. The show is now entering its ninth year and Simon Cowell is working on another three-year contract extension of the program. With a four judge panel, the entries will display their talents in front of America's TV audience and have it judged by the professional panel. Talent areas are represented in several different categories, from singing to acting and maybe even comedy skits. The entries compete in their specified areas and have the opportunity, if they are the final winners, to go on and receive places or contracts to perform professionally.
The judge's panel consisted of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara Dioguardi and Paula Abdul. However, the look of the judge's panel is now changing with the addition of a new member. Paula Abdul had differences in her contract negotiations and could not reach an agreement. Because of this, she quit the show. Emmy-winning talk show host Ellen Degeneres will be the new face as the fourth judge. This was decided after a series of guests had been filling in for Abdul after her departure.
Degeneres will fill her judge's seat when the top-rated show returns to Fox in January. Degeneres stated, "I'm thrilled to be the new judge on 'American Idol' and this will save me money from not having to text in my vote." She will continue to have her daytime talk show. Public opinion does not seem very agreeable with the decision for Ellen as the choice. Many feel she is not the right personality. Time will tell by her judging.
