American Idol Season 9 premiered this past week. DId anyone notice that Randy Jackson never said "dawg" once. The judges looked pretty calm and collected to me and almost a little robotic. Simon even calmed down a bit and it seemed like there were less of the tart remarks he usually gives out. Randy even seemed a little subdued and rarely said the work "pitchy" either. Kara was there but to me she doesn't have a very unique personality and sometimes I tune her out. What seemed to be missing was the heart of American Idol -- Paula Abdul. Without her, it just seemed like another day at the office. It should be interesting when Ellen comes in as the fourth permanent judge -- maybe she will spark Simon up and he will be back to his normal self. The guest judges were just that -- extra judges filling in for Paula. None of the remarks from them were worth remembering and they seemed to go along with the other 3 judges in who they liked. Victoria Beckham was criticized by Simon for caring too much about the contestant's outfits than their singing. Poor May Jay Bilge was afraid that the one contestant was going to throw something at her and she practiced her ducking movements. The best song choice seemed to be "Pants on the Ground" and he was even the best dancer.
I hope the show starts to get more exciting -- or maybe it is just the same thing year after year and we can't wait until the competition really begins.
