The Powers That Be at American Idol have picked Ellen to be their new judge. This choice has raised questions about its validity and reasoning. Can Ellen really replace Paula Abdul? The only way I can see her in that role is to be a counter-balance to Simon. Ellen is know for her wit and she is not afraid to use it against people. She may be able to keep Simon from becoming too rude and hurtful in his remarks but it would be in a more comedical way than Paula's gentleness.
Both Ellen and Paula are entertainers but their expertise is in different areas. Paula has been a singer, dancer and choreographer while Ellen's place is more in comedy. Paula is ruled by her heart it seems when she reviews a performance and Ellen may be ruled by her wit. Does Ellen have enough experience to judge these contestants and give honest opinions based on knowledge or just based on her likes and dislikes in music. Maybe American Idol has strayed enough from trying to find the best vocal entertainer to one who is the most popular. I for one, shall honestly miss Paula because of her gentle heartfelt way she reviewed a performance -- she didn't just give a rude remark but a creative way to make what needs to be changed better. Can Ellen do this?
That remains to be seen.
