Pete Sampras is one of the most recognized names in tennis. His record includes 15 Grand Slam titles which is more than any other men's player in tennis history. Pete's tennis idol was Rod Laver and after starting to play tennis at the age of seven, he achieved his dream of practicing with Rod Laver. His early stype was that of a baseline player but after a while playing against great players in the juniors, his coach switched his game to that of service and volley.
Grass courts were Pete's friend due to the fact that his serves would stay low after bouncing. On the opposite side, clay courts were hard for him to play on. Pete Sampras turned pro in 1988 at the age of sixteen and in two years he won his first pro tournament. Three years after that he was ranked number one on the tour and held that number one ranking for 6 consecutive years.
Pete Sampras was an amazing player -- ranked number one for so many years in a row, winning more Grand Slams than any other men's player and only second to Roger Federer in the amount of money he won during his career.
