Astroworld -- A Sign of the Times

Astroworld closed in 2005. It seems like the problems which led to it closure seem to be common among amusement parks across the country.  With the changing economy, revenue is hard to come by especially in overpassing the expenses involved.  Amusement parks seem to put emphasis on season passes to generate more revenue but there may be proof that it does the opposite.  A season pass, according to the author, is equal to visiting the park about 2 times in revenue generated for ticket sales.  Therefore, the remainder of times people visit the park is now free although you do bring in some revenue from food, souvenier and special events sales.  Astroworld couldn't make this work and Texas lost a great amusement park similar to Chicago losing Riverview in the late 1960's.
Astroworld did give the public wonderful rides with over 12 major ones like Batman: The Escape, Mayan Mindbender and the Texas Cyclone. There is still much information about Astroworld including a website created by some former employees dedicated to its memory.
Other sites are dedicated to reopening the park as there are many people who feel sad and angry at its closing.
Will Houston ever regain this icon or is this the future predicted for other major amusement parks across the US? Only time and the economy will tell.
