After watching eight seasons of American Idol, I do believe that Paula Abdul was the heart of American Idol. Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell based their judgement on how well a contestant would draw in record sales -- they mostly saw the $$$ instead of talent sometimes. Paula was the one who had walked in the shoes of the contestants and knew what they were going through and I believe she could hear real talent even through small mistakes. She was there to be critical when needed but never in a blunt or mean way. She truly wanted to help and even at times when her words didn't come out as fluent as planned, she tried to give needed help. I don't think the show will be the same without her because she was the champion of the contestants more than their "hangman".
