Bo Bice is the heartthrob sensation from the fourth season of American Idol. While Bice came in second place to the beautiful Carrie Underwood at the end of the show, he still has been able to launch a successful musical career as a solo artist. While not many people had heard of Bo Bice before American Idol, he actually was a professional musician before the show, traveling around the nightclub circuit all over the United States and Europe. He was also an accomplished songwriter, releasing his first CD in 1995 with his band, Purge. In addition to Purge, Bice had two other bands before American Idol introduced him to the American public, SugarMoney and Blue Suede Nickel.
Bo Bice was born Harold Elwin Bice Jr on November 1, 1975, to a musical family. He was named after his father, but his grandmother gave him the nickname Bogart because she said he had Humphrey Bogart eyes. The nickname stuck until kindergarten, when it was shortened to the present version of “Bo.” Bice won his first school talent competition at the age of 13. His parents divorced when Bice was very young and his mother Nancy remarried a manager with the Coca-Cola Company, Earle Downes. His family moved to England when he was 14 to accommodate his step-father’s job. Bice then formed his first band, Spinning Jenny, while still a teenager.
After moving back to the States, Bice completed his GED and took some classes at Calhoun Community College. He turned professional and never looked back musically. He met Caroline Fisher and became a devoted husband and father to his two young boys, Aidan Michael and Caleb James.
