Bo Bice was born November 1st, 1975 in Huntsville, Alabama. His mother Nancy was a gospel singer and his father Harold Elwin played the guitar. He was named after his father as Harold Elwin Bice, Jr. but his grandmother thought he had the eyes of Humphrey Bogart so she nick named him Bogart. As Bo got older he shortened it to Bo. When Bo was young, his parents were divorced and his mother married Earle Downes. Because of his step-father's work, they moved around a lot. They lived in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Atlanta and when he was 14 they moved to England.
He attended London Central High School and formed his first band, Spinning Jenny. Bo dropped out of high school just before graduation, moved back to Alabama and earned his GED. In 1995 his band Purge released their first CD. While playing gigs, Bo auditioned for the fourth season of American Idol. Bo made it into the top tiers and made history when he performed a cappella, “In a Dream” by Badlands. The crowd went wild and he received rave reviews by the judges. Bo went on to become runner up for American Idol.
Since American Idol, Bo Bice has released singles like “Inside Your Heaven” and two albums, “The Real Thing” released in 2005 and “See the Light” released in 2007. There are 3 more tour dates in 2009. You can see him July 23rd in Uncasville, CT, July 24th in Foxborough, MA and July 25th in New York, NY. In honor of Bo Bice, the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley declared May 24th as “Bo Bice Day.”
