Huntsville, Alabama is the birthplace of Bo Bice. Born in November of 1975, Bo Bice is best known for finishing second to Carrie Underwood during the American Idol contest in 2005.
Huntsville, Alabama is a true southern town located south of Tennessee. Its roots date back to the early 1800s. Originally named Twickenham, it was later renamed Huntsville in honor of John Hunt who is considered its first settler. It was also the first Alabama town to be incorporated. It was incorporated in 1811.
Initially, Huntsville was a cotton and agricultural center, but during WWII, it became a large manufacturer of munitions. After the war it looked like Huntsville would return to a small sleepy southern town, but this was not to be. The Army chose Huntsville as a strategic location for the development of missile research. This research grew into what we now know as our U.S. space program. Modern Huntsville is home to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.
Huntsville is a perfect combination of high-tech and hospitality. It is one of the south's fastest growing areas and offers a fairly temperate climate ideal for year round visitation. Its downtown area abounds with local historical attractions including multiple museums, a botanical garden and a wild animal park.
Bo Bice was born in a true Southern location, which is sure to have influenced his love of music. Huntsville, Alabama, after all, is a southern rock town with homespun likability. No wonder Bo continues to be an Idol Alum favorite.
