Music has always been a part of Bo Bice, and even his parents grew up on music. When he was young, he moved with his family through many different states. When he was 13, he won a music competition at his high school. The family moved to England when he was a teenager and he attended school there. He named his first band Spinning Jenny, which he formed while he was in high school there.
At the age of 18, he moved back to the states and went to college. He started performing all over the United States as well as England and Europe. While writing songs, he was performing in nightclubs all around the world. He had a new band that he called Purge and released his first CD in 1995.
He tried out for American Idol on a dare from his mother. He was one of the first southern rockers to perform on the show. Although he did not win the competition, he did end up becoming the runner-up and still got a great many offers for record deals. He went home to a large welcome where the song Sweet Home Alabama was his theme.
