You may not know him as Harold Edwin Bice Jr., but you do know this talented young man, born November 1, 1975, and his name is Bo Bice. He hails from a very rich heritage of gospel singers, and with a guitar playing father, it is no wonder he wound up on American Idol.
He was given his first guitar for his ninth birthday and started singing at the age of 13. He has been a solo artist, member of three different bands and has also opened for many big name groups. An accomplished singer and performer, he is also the only Idol competitor to risk everything and sing "a cappella" in the final rounds of the competition, which he lost by only 134 votes. He is a very talented musician who is able to play a wide variety of instruments, including the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar, harmonica, piano, mandolin and saxophone. Not bad for someone who, while living in London with his family, decided to drop out of school and return home to Alabama, where he subsequently earned his GED.
He released his first CD in 1995 with the group Purge and is currently with SugarMoney. With three albums under his belt entering the American Idol competition, it is no wonder he was able to project such talent and passion. His time after American Idol would continue to test his metal and show the public the strength of his character. During a tour in July of 2005, he broke his foot but continued the tour anyway. During the same tour in August, he was sidelined again, but this time for emergency intestinal surgery. Again, he managed to return to the tour. Aside from ending up hospitalized 20 times in just a few months, he has managed to continue performing and showing us why he is so loved.
There are not many performers who have the passion and dedication as he does. Packaged with the ability to perform with so many different instruments and a desire to help wherever he can, makes him a legend in the hearts and lives of those around him.
