The hit television show, American Idol, has expanded into a concert tour after the conclusion of each season. The concert tour showcases the Top 10 individuals and either pairs them together or highlights them individually. Last summer in 2008, the Top 10 from Season 7 toured 29 states and Canada to deliver 49 concerts dates. The Idol Live tour began in Arizona in July and ended in September at Oklahoma. The contestants were so talented from Season 7 that there were fewer group performances and more individual numbers.
The American Idol Tour highlights well-performed songs from the show and showcases individuals with instruments only if the performers were comfortable. The 2008 tour gave each performer a chance to sing 3 songs apiece, with David Archuleta singing 4 and David Cook singing 5. Many of the arenas held crowds over 10,000. Most Idol fans have reported that they prefer the individual performances over the group numbers. The Idol Live Tour has certainly been a successful venture for performers who were virtually unknown the year before the television show, reporting sales of over $20 million.
The Top 10 performers on the Idol Live Tour 2008 included David Archuleta, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Chikezie Eze, Michael Johns, Ramiele Malubay, Syesha Mercado, Carly Smithson, Brooke White and winner David Cook. Since the Tour, several performers have released individual songs and a few have recent albums, including David Cook, David Archuleta, and Brooke White. Many of Season 7's performers state they are working to complete album projects and continue to work in the music industry after their Idol experience.
