David Archuleta was born on December 28th, 1990, in Miami, Florida. Archuleta lived in Florida with his father Jeff and mother Lupe until the age of 6. The Archuleta family then moved to Sandy, Utah, where David later graduated from Murray High School. Archuleta started performing at a young age and by the time he was 10, he began performing at various venues. David appeared on Star Search when he was 12 years old and later became the winner of the junior vocal category. After his victory on Star Search, Archuleta appeared on multiple talk shows.
In 2007, Archuleta traveled to San Diego, California to audition for the reality show American Idol, and soon caught his big break. Archuleta advanced to Hollywood after impressing the judges with the song “Waiting on the World to Change.” After advancing to the top 50, Archuleta continued to impress the judges, this time singing “Heaven” by Bryan Adams, which led him to the top 24. Archuleta eventually advanced and made it to the coveted top 12. Archuleta made it to the final two and faced off against David Cook. In the finale he sang “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” “In This Moment,” and “Imagine.” Although Archuleta was a favorite, David Cook won the competition and Archuleta was runner up.
After American Idol was over, Archuleta signed with Jive Records. David released his self-titled debut album in November of 2008. The album featured his hit song “Crush,” which hit #2 on the Billboard charts. Archuleta has also crossed over into the acting world, making an appearance on the show iCarly.
