American Idol Season 8

American Idol’s eighth season premiered on the 13th day of January, 2009. The show stars the four judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and for the first time this season, Kara DioGuardi. It also features the host Ryan Seacrest. The season is 15 episodes long.

There are some marked differences between former seasons and season eight. The funny auditions or ridiculous people were showed less. They wanted to focus more on people who had a chance of winning. This season also shows more of the contestant’s past, and we learn more about each of them.

American Idol also received a new executive producer in Ken Warwick. The last producer, Nigel Lythgoe, left the show and joined “So You Think You Can Dance.” Ken Warwick has worked with many artists including Kara the new judge.

Another change to season 8 is the semifinals wild card round. This is not totally new to American Idol as it was done in season 3. There will be 36 semi-finalists and each will perform in groups of 12. Three people from each round will make it to the top 12. Then three people will be picked from a Wild Card episode. This episode will feature the 4th runner-ups, and a few people who the judges pick. Then the judges will pick the last three of the top twelve.

So far six of the top twelve have been selected by the public. They are Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert and Michael Sarver.
