It is one of the most popular shows on television, with a trio of judges who have carved a niche for themselves in the hearts of television fans everywhere. The question is, who is that dark haired mystery lady nestled next to Paula, and does she have what it takes to critique some of the best and worst singers in the country?
Born Kara Elizabeth DioGuardi on December 9th, 1970, she has grown to become one of the most sought after songwriters in the industry. With over 100 million records containing her songs and 39 albums in the Top 10 on Billboard's 200 album chart, she is considered one of the most qualified judges to sit on American Idol. She has worked with many past American Idol contestants, helping them with their albums. She has been awarded 10 BMI Pop Awards for her songs, and is the co-owner of Arthouse Entertainment, which helps to mentor and develop writers and artists. Even though her solo and band efforts did not bring her successes she did not give up, and she went on to win awards for her song writing abilities and has helped to bring many artists success. She also works with the Phoenix House, helping people cope with substance abuse and helps young people learn how to operate recording equipment. Her list of achievements and contributions in the music industry are not limited to simply writing songs, she is also the senior VP of "Artists and Repertoire" which helps to bring singers and recording companies together.
Even though her first television job as a judge with "The One" ended as the second lowest rating ever for a premiere, she has shown that she has what it takes to fit in with the American Idol judges.
