Harold Elwin ”Bo” Bice Jr was born on November 1, 1975 in Huntsville, Alabama. He took America by storm when he became the runner-up on Season 4 of American Idol.
Bo Bice comes from a family of gifted musicians which include gospel singers and guitar players. “Bo,” short for Bogart, was a shortened nickname his grandmother gave him as a child. Humphrey Bogart, the actor, was her inspiration. Bo began singing and playing the guitar at the early age of 9 years old. Besides the guitar, Bo Bice can play other instruments such as the piano, saxophone, harmonica, and mandolin.
Early in his life, Bo lived in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Atlanta, and eventually settled in England with his parents. He continued to play music, go to school, and be a regular kid but something was missing. Eventually, Bo decided to come back to America so he could pursue his dream of singing.
He came back to Alabama, received his GED, and began his own band. Bo Bice created and played in several bands such as Purge, Blue Sued Nickel, and SugarMoney. He continued to work as a guitar store manager while playing the club circuits with his band until his big break.
Bo Bice continued his musical career after American Idol, signing with RCA Records in 2005. He released two albums in 2005 and 2007. Several singles were also released with his single, “Inside Your Heaven Vehicle,” topping the Billboard Singles chart at number one when it debuted.
Bo Bice has been plagued by recurring intestinal issues that caused him to be hospitalized more than 30 times within 2006, ultimately having surgery on October 5, 2006 to correct the issues. Bo Bice has since recovered and continues to play the music he loves for the people who love him. He is married with two sons and lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
