Harold Elwin Bice, Jr., also known as “Bo” Bice, was born in Huntsville, Alabama on November 1, 1975. You might remember Bo on American Idol’s fourth season in 2005, where he became the runner-up to Carrie Underwood. You also may recall his soulful southern rock style of music and long brown hair down his back. What you may not recall though is the background information about Bo Bice.
Bo’s parents, Harold Elwin and Nancy Bice, divorced when Bo was a young child. His mother remarried with a man named Earle Downes, who was a manager at Coca-Cola. Young Bo was moved around a lot, mainly because of his step-father’s job.
The family lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Florida and London, England, in addition to Bo’s hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. The family returned to Alabama right before Bo’s eighteenth birthday, where he quickly got his GED and began attending Calhoun Community College. He carried his guitar with him wherever he went. There are quite a few radio stations in the Huntsville area, which no doubt influenced Bo’s musical style. Other things you will find in Bo’s hometown are the Huntsville Botanical Garden and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, which conducts the annual space camp program for students interested in becoming astronauts.
There is a small Japanese community in Huntsville, which celebrates an annual Garden Festival in Monte Sano State Park, where there is a beautiful two-acre Japanese Garden encircled by bamboo. The Madison County Nature Trail on Green Mountain, located on Huntsville’s south side, is a beautiful place for hiking, picnics and sightseeing.
