Harold Elwin Bice Jr. was born in Huntsville, Alabama on November 1, 1975. Harold was given the nickname “Bogart” by his grandmother because of his eyes. While in kindergarten he shortened it to Bo, because he felt it sounded cooler. Bo was born into music; his mother sang gospel music for several generations and his father was a guitar player. Sadly, his mother and father got divorced and Bo lived with his mother and returned to Alabama in 1993.
Upon returning to Alabama, Bo earned his GED and attended college before touring with his musical band. His tour started out very small, focusing mainly on local night clubs, but it eventually grew all over the United States, Ireland and several other countries. Bo released his first album with his band “Purge.” He had several bands before appearing on American Idol in 2004.
Once on American Idol, Bo broke the mold with his style of music. Bo writes and performs southern rock music, and he quickly became the judge’s favorite on the show. Bo Bice is in love with life and music, he is a man with a passion and dreams. He was able to live out one of his dreams and performed with members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, which was a big accomplishment for him. He has made a name for himself and the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, declared May 24th “Bo Bice Day” in Alabama.
