Bo Bice has been making a living with his music for twelve years now. However, it wasn’t until he appeared on the fourth season of American Idol that his career really took off. Today, he enjoys the freedom of playing with his own band called Sugar Money. He sings and plays several instruments on the group's debut album. In addition, Bo has toured all over the country and the world, both with the American Idols and his band.
Unexpectedly, in October 2006, Bo Bice was rushed into the hospital for emergency intestinal surgery. Doctors discovered that Bice suffered from intussusception, an intestinal condition found mostly in young children. Intussusception is when an intestine has become obstructed. What happened was that part of the small intestine pushed itself into another section of intestine. Bo may have had this serious intestinal disorder as a child; however, it did not flare up until the summer of 2006. He’s made a full recovery, and his singing career is back on track.
The causes of intussusception are unknown. However, there seems to be a connection with stomach flu. There are several tests doctors can do to diagnose intussusception. After treatment, the prognosis is good, with no complications. The corrective surgery is only one part of his recovery. The other part of his recovery is changing diet and lifestyle.
Bo Bice is taking good care of himself. His gruff tenor voice and everyday country boy charm makes him a favorite on the country music charts. He’ll always have the American Idol connection, but Bo is holding his own these days in the music industry.
