Bo Bice was born Harold Edwin Bice Jr. on November 1, 1975, in Huntsville, Alabama. He is best known for his time spent on the fourth season of American Idol. The southern rock singer came from a very musical family. His mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunts were all gospel singers and his father played guitar.
At age 13, he won his first singing competition. As a teenager, he lived for a brief time in England and had Ozzy Osbourne's family as neighbors. While in high school, Bice formed his first band called Spinning Jenny. At 18, he returned to Alabama and attended Calhon Community College and then the University of North Alabama. While he was in college, Bice decided to become a professional entertainer and did shows in the United States, Ireland, England and Europe.
In addition to singing and playing multiple instruments, he is also an accomplished songwriter. His first CD was released in 1995 with his band Purge. Prior to American Idol, he opened for Blackfoot and Warrant. He also performed with a former member of the Allman Brothers, Johnny Neal. He recorded Ex Gratia in 1999 and Recipe for Flavor in 2000.
Bice plays the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar, harmonica, piano, mandolin and saxophone. He currently records under the Sugar Money Label that he formed. Bice lives with his wife and sons in Nashville and even though he did not win American Idol, his musical career is still going strong.
