You’re probably familiar with and possibly a fan of America’s most popular talent show, “American Idol.” Starting its eighth season, “American Idol” has been a phenomenal success and has given us previous winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and David Cook.
You’re also probably familiar with the “American Idol” judges, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. However, you may not know that season eight will be welcoming a new judge, Kara DioGuardi.
DioGuardi was born in New Rochelle, New York, where she attended Duke University and worked for Billboard Magazine. To say DioGuardi is talented would be an understatement. Her songwriting skills are unmatched, and her songs are sought after by the biggest names in the recording industry including Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias and The Jonas Brothers. Her songs can be heard on over 100 million records, including those of several Grammy Award winners. In fact, Kara has the distinction of being the songwriter with the most songs heard over the airwaves.
Kara has won 10 BMI awards as well as BMI’s Cable Award and Pop Songwriter of the Year Award. She was also nominated for a Latin Grammy. She is the co-owner of publishing company, Arthouse Entertainment and has received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the TAXI A&R (Artists and Repertoire) company. She’s also been instrumental in efforts to prevent substance abuse via her involvement with Phoenix House.
Judging talent is nothing new to DioGuardi who was a judge on the shortlived ABC series “The One: Making a Music Star.” Her personal life is also going well. DioGuardi is engaged to boyfriend Mike McCuddy. Is DioGuardi qualified to be an “American Idol" judge? Absolutely!
